A call is open for contributions to the four half day sessions of the conference.
The selection for oral or poster contributions will be based on the content of the submitted papers,
specifically their originality, technical quality, style and clarity of presentation and importance to the
field. All Papers presented at the conference will be included in the Conference Record. All conference
attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the Conference Record on cd-rom together with a paper copy
of the abstracts.
A subset of the selected papers will be published in a special edition of
Methods of Information in Medicine after going through peer review.
Please indicate clearly in your submission if you would like your contribution to be peer reviewed for
Methods of information in Medicine, or just to be part of the Conference Records.
All submitted papers to all sessions should be related to the use of Grid technology in either one or
more of the following areas:
- bioinformatics
- pharmaceutics
- medical imaging
- biomedical simulations
- biomedical knowledge
- social healthcare, computerised epidemiology
- health data storage and processing networks
- security of medical data in a grid environment
- humanitarian applications
The four sessions to which papers can be submitted are:
Session 1: The HealthGrid Vision & Approaches to its Design
This session is open for research papers on results in using grid technology
in biomedical-informatics and health, description of architectures and design issues, testing applications and practical outcome.
Session 2: End-User Needs
This session is open for research papers on user requirements : what's needed, elicit
approaches, requirements analyses in administration, biomedical research, drug design, clinical applications, security
& privacy issues from users view, to last the afternoon.
Session 3: Infrastructures & Testbeds
This session is open for research papers on middleware for biomedical-informatics/health,
testbeds allowing to test health/biomedical applications, enabling technologies.
Session 4: Implementations & Alternative/Complementary Technologies
The call is open for research papers on actual project implementations, problems faced &
ongoing unresolved research issues, technology alternatives, interoperability, security and privacy from technological view.

The guidelines for authors are those of the Methods of Information in Medicine and can be found on
the following web site :
http://www.methods-online.com/zs/methods/pdf/instruct.pdf. Papers should not exceed 5 pages in print.
All papers submitted for the conference, even if not wished to be peer reviewed, should follow the format indicated in
the guidelines for authors of Methods of information in Medicine.
All submissions should clearly indicate the preferred type of presentation during the conference: poster,
demonstration or oral presentation and the authors should clearly indicate which session the paper is
submitted to.
Authors should also indicate if they submit their paper for publication in the special edition of Methods of Information in
Medicine. In that case, the papers will be peer reviewed and the authors will receive the evaluation reports.
